Itinerary

Day 1 volcanoes in Arequipa

This tour begins picking up the passengers from their respective hotels. We leave the city of Arequipa in a private bus, As soon as we leave the city we can see the three most important volcanoes in Arequipa, they are: Misti, Chachani and Pichupichu.

After this we will make our first stop at the entrance of the aguada Blanca national reserve to observe the elegant colored vicuñas with their large eyes then we will move on, making a second stop inside the reserve to see some large groups of llamas and alpacas. We will also be able to observe a variety of plants, which are eaten by these animals: Ichu and Tola. Our third stop will be at Patapampa, the highest point (4800m) that we will cross on our trip.

Here we can see appreciate a curious type of plant called Yareta, the only plant which grows above 5,000 m. it produces a resinous substance, which can be used as fuel for bread ovens (they are now protected by the state). We will also be able to see the apachetas, which are piles of stones stacked one on top of the other which have a special significance for the town’s people.

After this we will make our next stop at the Volcano look out where we can see the grandeur of the volcanoes: Ampato, Sabancaya and Hualca hualca. After seeing all these wonders, we will arrive at the town of Chivay, where we will have our delicious traditional lunch, and after a rest, we will visit the La Calera thermal baths (35ºC). In the evening we can go to a folkloric show or Pena, where we will enjoy our evening meal while watching a local show in which we will see typical dances performed in their special costumes.

Day 2 : Colca Canyon

We will get up early in the morning (6am) to have breakfast and then go to the town of Cabanaconde, from where we can go down 1,200m, into the Colca Canyon. From the first glimpse of the canyon we will feel the excitement of going down to see all that nature offers us.

On the way we will be able to see the length of the canyon and natural rock formations. Later we will see Sangalle, the place where we will rest for 4 hours. Sangalle (usually known as the oasis) is a very green place with abundant vegetation; here we will find a natural swimming pool of 24 degrees centigrade, if you choose we can go trough fishing and walk around for getting to know the surroundings of the place. We will have our lunch here. After this we will go back up to Cabanaconde to spend a night. We will have dinner and rest until the following day.

Day 3: flying condor

We will get up at 6am for having breakfast and then go to the CRUZ DEL CONDOR, the most anticipated moment for many visitors, here we can see the elegance of the flying condor with their wings outstretched in the sky, like watching over his territory, demonstrating at the same time their control over the air, You will wonder also why the Incas considered them as special birds, after enjoying this amazing show we will go back to chivay town stopping to visit the town of pinchollo, maca, achoma and yanke on the way, during the route you will see different colonial churches.
Then we will arrive to chivay town, where we stop for our lunch, before returning to the white city of Arequipa.
