Choquequirao Trek 5 Days / 4 Nights – Ultimate Inca Trail Adventure
Embark on a legendary Choquequirao trek, a 5-day journey into one of Peru’s most remote and awe-inspiring Inca sites. This Choquequirao 5 days expedition takes you deep into the Andes, far from the crowds, to explore the dramatic terraces and majestic structures of this hidden Inca citadel.
On this Choquequirao hike Peru, you’ll cross steep mountain passes, descend into the Apurímac River canyon, and ascend rugged trails that open onto panoramic views of the ruins. The trail leads to a spectacular vantage point where you can appreciate the scale and mystery of Choquequirao, known for its sprawling terraces and impressive architecture.
This Choquequirao archaeological tour allows you to explore the ceremonial plazas, agricultural terraces, and sacred temples — all while breathing in the solitude of this remote, high-altitude environment. Because of its off-the-beaten-path location, the remote Inca ruins trek feels like a true discovery, with far fewer visitors than more famous sites.
Many consider Choquequirao to be an alternative trek to Machu Picchu, offering a similarly powerful connection to Inca civilization but with a greater sense of wilderness and adventure. Throughout the trek, you'll feel the spirit of a Choquequirao expedition, as you hike through steep canyons, cross rivers, and camp under starry skies. It's a challenging Andean trekking Peru experience — demanding but deeply rewarding.
As part of this Choquequirao trekking Peru route, you'll gain insights into the engineering brilliance of the Incas, their agricultural systems, and their spiritual practices. The journey culminates in a heartfelt encounter with the Choquequirao wilderness trek — a place of mystery, tranquility, and profound historical resonance.
Whether you're a seasoned trekker, a history enthusiast, or a nature lover, this Choquequirao adventure offers a rare chance to connect with Peru’s ancient past in a deeply personal way.
Day 1: Cusco / Cachora Capuliyoq / Playa Rosalina
Pickup from your hotel in Cusco early in the morning, from where you’ll drive through Andean landscapes toward Cachora, the starting point of this remote Inca ruins trek.
Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the rugged valleys and snow-tipped peaks of the Andes. From Cachora, you begin the Choquequirao hike Peru, descending into the Apurímac canyon.
You’ll make a stop at a viewpoint called Capuliyoc, offering spectacular vistas over the canyon and the mountains beyond.
Continue your trek to Playa Rosalina, a riverside campground where you’ll rest after your first day of trekking. This leg of the journey sets the tone for a true Choquequirao expedition, remote and intimate.
Day 2: Apurímac River / Choquequirao.
After breakfast, you’ll hike upward from the canyon floor, climbing rugged terrain toward Santa Rosa, passing through scenic trails and lush Andean vegetation.
From Santa Rosa, make your way to Marampata, a high viewpoint from which you’ll have sweeping vistas of the Apurímac Gorge and surrounding mountains.
Continue to Choquequirao Camp, located near the archaeological site. Here, you’ll set camp and prepare for the next day’s exploration. It feels like a true base for this Choquequirao 5 days journey.

Day 4: Choquequirao / Apurímac River
Begin the day descending from the Choquequirao ruins to Raqaypata, retracing parts of your path and enjoying different angles of the canyon and ruins.
The terrain is challenging — steep in places — making this a demanding section that lives up to the reputation for challenging Andean trekking Peru.
Continue your trek toward Coca Masana (or an equivalent remote campsite), where you’ll spend your fourth night. Along the way, experience solitude and the wild beauty of the Andean slopes.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Day 5: Apurímac River / Cachora / Cusco
On your final day, hike up from Coca Masana toward Cachora, ascending through Andean hills and enjoying final canyon views.

Why This Is More Than Just a Trek
Hidden deep in the Andes, Choquequirao offers an adventure that goes far beyond a typical hike. Known as the “Sister City of Machu Picchu,” this remote archaeological wonder rewards travelers with unmatched solitude, dramatic mountain scenery, and a deep connection to Inca history. The Choquequirao trek is more than a physical challenge—it’s an immersive journey into untouched nature, ancient engineering, and authentic Andean culture.
Unlike popular routes, the Choquequirao trekking experience takes you through vast canyons, cloud forests, condor viewpoints, and terraced Inca complexes that remain almost empty of crowds. This isolation creates a profound sense of discovery—every stone staircase, every panoramic ridge, every sunrise feels personal and sacred.
What makes this adventure truly unique is the privilege of reaching a site still being uncovered by archaeologists. Choquequirao ruins offer a rare glimpse into living Inca history, where terraces, ceremonial plazas, and llama-designed walls sit in pristine silence. Trekkers often say this journey changes their perspective—connecting them with the Andes in a way few other expeditions can.
For photographers, nature lovers, and explorers seeking something real, raw, and transformative, the Choquequirao hike delivers an unforgettable mix of challenge and wonder. This is not just a trek—it’s one of Peru’s last great expeditions.
