Today is a big day and the most anticipated day of the trek. We hike up to 17,000 feet where you will be graced with views of the majestic painted hills, but don’t get too excited yet, Ausangate rainbow mountain Trek 4/3 we still have a few hours to go before we finally arrive at the Rainbow Mountain of Vinicunca. We have a celebratory lunch on top and take long break to enjoy the views. After lunch we head back up the valley and set up camp near Lake Yanaorqo

DAY 4. Vinicunca/Cusco

You’ll most likely stop on the way at the towns of Ocongate and Qatca where you you can have a drink and see some local culture. The journey to Tinki takes roughly 3.5 hours. From Tinki your trek begins proper. You start by trekking through the Vilcanota Valley before steadily climbing upwards to some high grasslands.Ausangate rainbow mountain Trek 4/3 Here you get your first glimpse of the Vilcanota range, including both Ausangate and Colqe Cruz peak. You cross the Mapacho river before continuing on through local community villages towards the base of Ausangate. You camp near the thermal baths at Upis (4408m). Ausangate rainbow mountain Trek 4/3 After breakfast we begin our trek at 7:00am. We begin ascending for 3 hours The morning begins with your first mountain pass crossing – Arapa (4850m). After reaching the pass you stop for a light lunch before descending down into the valley on a well-trodden gravel trail. Once back down in the valley you camp for the night beside the gorgeous blue lake of Jatun Puqa Q’ocha. Each lake in the region is coloured differently depending on the coloured sediment of the nearby mountains

Ausangate rainbow mountain Trek 4/3 Continue as far as we can towards Puca punta the red sandstone sediment formations, such a wonderful experience. Here we see vicuñas and luckily condors, to shorten the climb this is a relatively short day and eventually encounter Vinicunca a mountain of striations of colors embedded in the hillsides. best known as The Rainbow Mountain, it speaks for itself. We ended up having a marvelous time and arrive to Cusco.

A light day pack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek – prepare for a vast range of changes in temperature
Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho. Plastic ponchos can be bought for about $1 in Cusco.
Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended. Extra socks are a must.
Sandals or plastic slip on thongs are also good to give your feet a chance to breath in the evenings if you wish to carry them.
Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces, gloves, scarf and beanie. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping.

IMPORTANT: Some of the reasons that our price may be higher than that of other agencies are the following:
We ALWAYS book the maximum number of porters possible (according to Inca Trail regulations) so that our porters are not overloaded.
Also, We are the only travel operator in Peru that supplies porters with proper tents, sleeping pads and adequate food for this type of activity.
